Follow Your Heart

We all have an inner voice…sometimes that voice is loud but more often it’s not so loud but rather quiet. If you do not pay very close attention you could miss what it’s saying. Take some time each day to check in with your inner voice and feel what it says. Listen to it. If you do not know exactly what you should do, than don’t do anything until you are clear.
In yoga there are a lot of moments where the practice is very obvious…you really feel your hips in Warrior 2 and the fear in Camel is right there on the surface, you have ahhh…haaa moments that are profound…but the deeper learning is in the subtleties. The stuff that no one else can see but that you can feel and that when you feel it you may have to go further inward. This is not logic, this is feeling. Listen to your heart and follow where it takes you…it will lead you on the right path every time!

The Yoga Flame Burns Bright!

Hi there….haven’t written since the beginning of the year ! Wow… does time fly when you are teaching yoga! What a beautiful experience this past year so far has been. Wes and I are filled up with gratitude and inspired by all of you who have made Red Hot Yoga home.
I wanted to share with you one of the greatest things that I have learned about yoga and about life, for that matter, over the past 16 years!
When I first started yoga, someone told me it would be relaxing and when I first got married someone told me it would be challenging….well this is what I have learned…the longer you stay with your yoga practice and the longer you make a commitment to anything, marriage, relationship, dedication to family, work etc. the more relaxing and challenging it becomes.
Life should be challenging, but you should let yourself enjoy the experience, because that is what we are on this earth to do…we are here to learn something.
Those of you who teach, and really we are all teachers in some way, it is our work to give those we teach inspiration, courage and confidence in their own ability.
I never tire of teaching and, in fact, I am now more inspired than I was when first starting. Over time and experience you have more to offer to any situation in your life if you always make an effort to keep learning and if you stay present.
I guess what I’m saying is that we should all take a look at what we have in our lives and not what we don’t because you probably have a lot more to work with than you may think!

Happy New Year…Let’s Practice Some Yoga!

Jan

8:34 pm

Hello Everyone & Happy New Year! We are looking to the present day and enjoying the snow and it occurs to me that we never quite know exactly how things will turn out …so I feel that I should share some of the ways that I look at the ever changing days and world.
Know who you are because sometimes you is all you’ve got.
Adjust and acclimate to change, it is those who are stubborn who break.
Practice forgiveness with every ounce of your being because it is not fair to you to carry hate in your heart.
Trust that the Universe knows what is right for you and ask for help anytime you need it but not anytime you want it.
When we practice yoga there will be many times that you are misunderstood know that you must stay the course, do not get rattled.
If you take a hit it is alright to go down but you better get back up stronger.
The world needs us to fill it with deep compassion.
Practice Yoga.

Nomi Ross

We’ve got some great things coming for the holiday season and the new year, but those need to take a back seat for this post.

Last Friday, Naomi Ross, the owner of Bikram Yoga Marietta passed away. Naomi was one of the first yoga instructors that I worked with in Atlanta. Her passion was so strong and her dedication to the Bikram practice unshakeable. She brought a great deal to her community and I am glad to have known her. I firmly believe that you learn something from everyone you meet and Naomi taught me a lot about being a strong and determined person. She will be remembered fondly and we want to express our deep sorrow to her friends and family…she will be missed.
Namaste.

Memories…

Oct

1:36 am

I was relaxing this evening, just allowing my mind to drift a little from yoga pose to yoga pose and as the mind tends to do, bits and pieces of different classes I’ve taken, many of the teachers who taught me, just warming my heart and reminding me of all the lessons learned, the journey and all of its twists and turns…the good days and the really bad days the days where I was consumed with doubt or the days where my ego won…all these thoughts, so many…and I realized that today is nine years to the date from the first time I ever took hot yoga, and it was here in Atlanta at the Sandy Springs Bikram Hot Yoga studio! I was a goner from that moment on…a hot yoga junkie! I could not get enough, can still not get enough of this beautiful stuff! I had practiced for many years before in New York but it was the hot that got me and then when power came into picture…well you all know what happened…because now it happens to you every day at our studio!
Yoga is the heartbeat of my soul it is the get and go that I rise to each morning and the breath that I succumb to every evening. This practice, this dedication , this commitment to my life and in turn to yours is why I am…and if I know nothing else it is this…we are all connected. I teach you as I have been taught by others…I will always continue until I draw my last breath and I hope that this journey fills you up as it is what speaks to the goodness in all of us. namaste. b-

Grand Opening Weekend!

Sep
22
6:45 pm

It’s time to party, so get ready for our Grand Opening-Open House Weekend on Friday, October 15th thru Sunday, October 17th!

Over these three days, all of the classes will be free – which rocks – and makes it the perfect time to bring friends and family members to try what you have been raving about for years! Mats and towels will be provided as well, so don’t let anyone squirm away on that excuse, heh.

In addition, I’ll be doing 2 workshops, both free, on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s will be “What’s Up With Your Dogs?”, and will be an in-depth look at Up Dog and Down Dog. Over the years, more questions get asked about these two poses than almost any other, so let’s spend some time really learning how to do them right! This is a great workshop for beginning practitioners, and for folks who love the Power and SunFlow classes. This will be a 2 hour workshop, and will last from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Sunday’s workshop will be “Let’s Get Upside Down!” and will be all about inversions! We’ll cover shoulder stand, head stand, hand stand, and forearm balancing, and again, this one is really great for beginners and folks who have just never had a chance to learn these poses. We’ll go for 90 minutes, lasting from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm.

Once again, all of the classes and workshops are free, and no reservations are needed. We will still accept donations for Saturday’s “For The People!” class because that money goes to PAWS Atlanta, and we want to be able to donate as much as we can at the end of October (on that note, many, many thanks to everyone who came out last Sunday night! We collected over 50 cans of dog and cat food to donate to the Atlanta Humane Society (click their name to go to their website, and we’ll be doing the same thing this Sunday – see our website for more).

Okay, back to the weekend plans.

We will of course be running specials, and will offer $10 off all class cards and monthly memberships, plus, we’ll be waiving the $25 registration fee for auto-bill memberships. Hopefully this will spread some good economic karma!

I’m pretty sure we’ll add events as we get closer to the weekend, so stay tuned to the website and the blog for more.

In other studio news, we’re posting the Teacher Training weekend dates, tuition and required texts. We’ll also be announcing workshops in November and December.

If all of this seems awfully far off into the future, then come practice with me tonight at Advanced class @ 7:15!

Namaste’,

Bethany

One Month Update…

Sep
18
4:03 am

So, two months ago we left AHY…and one month ago we opened Red Hot Yoga.

That’s a lot.

For starters, RHY is wonderful! It’s so much more than I could have ever hoped for, and as far as a studio space goes, it’s the dream I’ve been building for years. The floors were a blessing, but the design, the space, and the heat blowers just fit like a socket, and the rest is history. We can’t wait for everybody to come by and take a class, and if you haven’t had a chance to come by yet, maybe our Grand Opening Weekend on Oct. 15th -17th will be a good time! We’ll be posting weekend goodies before then so stay posted, and come by sooner if you can!

We’ll be announcing a few workshops in the next week, and we’ll release exact dates for the 2011 Teacher Training dates as well.

As far as the rest of the drama goes, please know that we are doing everything we can to stay above it. We (Bethany and Wes) know about the stories being told about us leaving AHY – and they are just stories – but we figure that most folks just want to practice. And we feel the same.

Want the entire story? email us @ redhotyoga@comcast.net. I’ll tell you everything you want to know.

For everyone else, I won’t bother with the dirty laundry. The main thing is, at 721 Miami Circle, you have a kick-ass yoga studio ready for your Hot & Power Yoga pleasure, with someone that knows exactly what they are doing.

Close your eyes for a minute…

Quoting philosophers won’t teach you yoga. You have to know this. At least study…

Inventing poses won’t impress anyone. Yoga is much older than that. Please don’t injure folks…I taught you better than that.

I don’t know what to say other than I cry for you. I don’t know what went wrong. I wish you would have called me.

If you’ve recently graduated from my teacher training, please re-read the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali. You will find the best answers to your questions there.

For everyone else, please know that I practice and teach yoga.

If you wish to come to a yoga class, my studio is Red Hot Yoga, and I teach there almost every day.
